New perspective

I am a middle grade writer. I taught there, I know the mindset. I get them.

But a story I've sat on for a while won't work there. The characters must move to YA or the theme softens down to MG. 

Then it hit me. I don't know this age level. Haven't had a teen of my own to observe and the only experience I can draw on is my teenage days of many years ago. I am out of my comfort zone. 

Now what?
