Three-act structure
A while ago I was struggling with a story so I had to stop and figure out why it wasn't working. I had a basic idea what the sort was to be about and a few scenes mapped in my mind. What I lacked was story structure.
A Google search revealed numerous sites, but it seemed the three-act story structure was an easy model to start from. Simply put, the three acts are set-up, the confrontation, and the resolution.
Clicking on the numerous graphic representations offered the most bang a lot for minimal effort. Every one who's discussed it has a slightly different take on the concept. It may be worth your time to check it out.
